My name is Michael. As somebody with a keen interest in sports and education in sports nutrition, I can understand what it takes for athletes to fuel and hydrate and why it is so important.

My credentials

Degrees:

  • Honours Bachelor of Science, Human Biology, University of Toronto, 2000

  • Bachelor of Applied Science, Nutrition and Food, Ryerson University, 2006

  • Ottawa Hospital Dietetic Internship Program, 2008

  • Master of Science, Nutritional Science (Dietetics), Arizona State University, 2019

I have been registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario since 2009 and have worked as a dietitian in long-term care and in primary care for nearly three years, which gave me the background in clinical nutrition needed to help others with their nutritional needs and in helping my clients develop plans appropriate for them and seeing how they work.

I am also a member of the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association (CPSDA), which helps me build my knowledge of sports nutrition and keep me on top of the latest research in the field.

My client
philosophy

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to your individual nutrition needs. The client or group comes first and I will involve you in all steps of the process.

I will work with you to try to find the solutions that best meet your needs and goals and the solutions that you can easily work with.

I will help you using advice based on research-based evidence.

I will work with you to meet your special dietary needs and include  the foods you enjoy eating.

Supplements are just that-- supplements. They cannot replace the nutrients you get from food-- they only help you get more of a nutrient when you don't get enough. I will only recommend them if you can benefit from them and it's something you can work with.

A little more about me:

Bottom line, I love sports. As a fan and a participant, I learned a great deal how different sports are played.  Knowing how different sports are played helps me understand what different athletes will need to fuel and hydrate.

I value knowledge and learning more. If I don't know something, I will learn more about it. If I need to know more about your sport, you will be the first person I ask.

I became a dietitian because I wanted to help people and address their concerns about nutrition, which is crucial to everything.

My favorite foods include fresh fruits and vegetables, shrimp, lobster, crab and salmon, with the occasional sweet treat every now and then!
